The unincorporated community of Denmark, IA, is located about nine miles north of Fort Madison in northeastern Lee County, close to Werner Memorial Woods. Iowa Highway 16 runs through Denmark as Academy Avenue, where a small population of only about 500 residents live peaceful lives.

The town was laid out around 1837, and Denmark’s own post office opened in 1846. The structure of Denmark Congregational United Church of Christ was completed in the late 19th century and today is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Denmark is served by the Fort Madison Community School District, as the community remains part of the Fort Madison statistical area. Local points of interest include Star Park and Lee County Speedway.
